Hi, I'm Rachel.
I used to be a tax lawyer.
My job was to write explanations of difficult rules and concepts to the public.
Eventually, I decided that there was something missing. While writing documents to explain legal ideas, I drew, I diagmrammed, and I illustrated to help me understand and explain, but when it came to the final product, there were only words.
I decided to go back to university to study visual communication design. I didn't really know what to focus on, so I tried as many different things as I could. I've found that I love InDesign; I can spend hours illustrating in Photoshop and Illustrator; I learned that I loved to create motion graphics; I discovered a new appreciation for the aesthetics of type (which in my previous career was merely a carrier for language!).
To each project I bring rigorous analysis, a willingness to try new things and extend myself, and a drive to create useful and well-crafted things.
I'm still finding my voice as a designer, but I am excited to have a set of new tools to help people understand complex information.
